1. Use products that will protect color from fading. Using sulfate free products specifically designed for your hair type and condition, and also for color protection. Our favorites? Try Oribe Beautiful Color for an extra punch of UV filters and color retaining goodness or Bright Blonde to keep pale blondes clean and bright.
2. Turn down the heat! That means all of your tools, hair dryer and also shower water! Heat causes the cuticle of the hair to swell, releases color pigment and causes the surface of the hair to be dull and frizzy. For heat styling tools we suggest keeping the heat between 320 - 370 degrees. As for shampooing, keep the temp down as much as possible. Remember the hotter the water, the more color you'll fade and cause the hair to look dull. Try rinsing with a cold shot to seal the cuticle down.
3. Protect hair from fading in the sun. Wear a hat when possible to protect the hair from UV effects. Use a UV protectant like Oribe's Invisible Defense daily for extra protection and throw in your beach bag for extra protection. And don't forget your sunroof counts as sun exposure too!
4. Protect hair from chlorine and salt water. These elements can strip color and leave the hair feeling dry and lifeless. Wet hair before entering the water, and apply conditioner. This will keep the hair from absorbing the salt and minerals. Rinse and/or shampoo as quickly as possible after exiting the water so that minerals will not dry in the hair. Clarify and condition after you're done.
5. Use a clarifier once a week or after exposure to the elements or water outside. This will help remove any build-up from water and elements.. Also use a mask to nourish and replace moisture loss
6. Watch out for the purple shampoos! If haircolor has faded or has mineral buildup, purple shampoos can leave the hair looking darker and dull. Oribe's Bright Blonde system is designed to provide the maximum amount of clarifying, nutrients and just the right amount of purple to keep the hair bright on a daily basis without darkening or dulling.
